Apexx Behavioral Solutions CEO, Ted McLyman, presents a compelling story about how behavior drives money decisions and that the common wisdom about personal finance is wrong. Building on over thirty-five years of experience as a leader, educator, financial advisor and business owner McLyman offers a refreshing new approach to money management. Money Makes Me Crazy, A Prescription for Money Sanity, draws on his vast understanding of behavioral finance to explore why we continually make bad money choices. Using self-deprecating humor and stories, McLyman offers a light and entertaining account of how our human nature conspires against us when we make money choices.
This is a revolutionary consumer book about how we feel and think about money and how our emotions impact our spending decisions. Money success is about behavior and not product selection. This versatile book targets the general public but is suited as a supplement to traditional personal finance books and courses. It also is a great “give away” for financial professionals.
The theme is simple and straightforward. Humans are not wired to work well with money. The behaviors that kept us alive in the forest can kill us at the mall. Key points include:
• Money decisions are always emotional.
• Everyone has a unique money temperament.
• Money strategies should match our money temperament.
• The old financial industry is all about products–features and benefits.
• The new financial industry is all about behavior–temperament and strategy.
• Know your money temperament and manage your behavior to create wealth.

This is not a traditional money self-help book. There are no graphs or charts, no financial jargon, no instant solutions or clever techniques. This is a book about how we feel and think about money and how our emotions impact our spending decisions. The book stands on its own but is designed to supplement traditional personal finance books and courses of instruction—for example, books by Ramsey, Orman and others.

Ted’s book leads the reader through a potentially transformational mind shift. He understands the link between hard-wired human nature and the use of money – an often-ignored concept in financial planning. There can be no doubt that anyone reading this book and absorbing the message will make better decisions about money.
As a strategic planner and business consultant, the thoughtful, sometimes counter-intuitive approach to making decisions about money is very appealing. There is a direct link to my work with generational diversity – all our decisions are values-based. Since the different generations have different value systems, it makes sense that there are widely divergent approaches to dealing with money. This book sets the stage for a life-altering basis of financial decision-making and I highly recommend it.
The message is simple and straightforward and is delivered in a quick and entertaining fashion. If you are a manager of young employees or a concerned parent wanting to give your child a gift that will have life-long benefit, you must share this book.
As with all information of value, Ted McLyman’s book is based on his years of experience as a leader, financial advisor and risk-taking entrepreneur. The value is profound – anyone who wants to live better by making better financial decisions can significantly benefit from the book’s insightful message.

WOW, what a book!!! March 3, 2011
Ted McLyman had my attention when he spoke at a breakfast meeting I attended. Bought the book, read it in 3 hours (first read). Have read twice since, each time getting more comfortable with Crazy Me. . . and Now am gifting it to family & friends!!! He is really on to something. Wish I’d met this book 10, no, 30 years ago, but guess I wasn’t ready (and of course Ted hadn’t written).
Of course, my ‘behaviors’ affect how I handle (mis handle) $$$$$. Why didn’t I think of this? Thank you, thank you, Ted . . . book has changed my life already!!
A Truly Helpful book February 1, 2011
My husband and I’ve read so many financial books and articles over the years, and Money Makes Me Crazy stands alone. So much of what we’ve seen before is basically the technical or mechanical parts of managing money and investing—establishing budgets, ways to save money, investing methods, saving for retirement, saving for college, the power of compound interest and time, and so on. That is helpful for sure, but none of it went to the core of us and money. This book does. It immediately tackles why we humans generally have a very tough time with money, helps us each identify our money values, biases, and tendencies, helps us improve our fundamental relationship with money, and gives us the means to greatly improve our financial security. It’s an easy read, straightforward, extremely engaging, thought-provoking, and I think groundbreaking.
This book presents the underlying bases for our decision-making. It takes ‘Know your client’ to a whole new level. Perfect for any financial advisor or serious sales professional.
