Who may enter?

The Global eBook Awards are open to authors, publishers, illustrators and photographers.

What is eligible?

  • eBooks from authors, publishers,  illustrators, photographers, self-published or traditionally published, regardless of company size. The Global eBook Awards are given to the best of the best, not the best of some special group.
  • eBooks in the English language from any country.
  • eBooks copyrighted or released (offered on a website) prior to 1 July 2011. Revised editions, with a more recent release date, are eligible. Revised editions are considered by the publishing industry to be new books (they usually have new ISBNs); they may be entered again in following years.
  • eBooks fitting into one of the categories listed. Each title may only be entered in one category.

Dates

  • Accepting entries: After January 1, 2011.
  • EBook released anytime before July 1, 2011.
  • Application deadline: June 30, 2011, midnight, Pacific Time.
  • Finalists announced beginning July 20, 2011.
  • Award ceremony in beautiful Santa Barbara: Saturday, August 20, 2011.

Judging

eBooks are evaluated as objectively as possible with scores on several items. Judging panels will consider cover design, content quality, layout when not straight text, originality, etc. Judges are industry professionals with experience in eBooks and in the category they evaluate. Decisions of the judges are final.

Awards

In addition to unique awards, gold foil “sticker” files will be given to Winners and Finalists to apply to their book covers and promotional materials.

  1. Karen says:

    Dan,
In what format will you accept our ebooks:
    pdf, epub, mobi, ibook?

  2. Thank you, Dan, for this wonderful opportunity to be recognized and potentially, promoted. I've been a fan of yours for years and am grateful for the significant help your Self-Publishing Manuals and Publishing Poynters newsletter has provided me. I've read many eBooks on self-publishing and far too many of them paint rosy pictures. Yours manage to be pragmatic yet simultaneously inspirational. Many thanks!

  3. I didn’t see Romance in the Fiction category and just want to inquire if I can still submit my Romance novel.

    Thanks!

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

We didn’t include it on the page listing the categories, but it’s there now. There are already 8 books listed in that category. Please join them!

  4. Delilah says:

My novel was originally published on Kindle but will soon be in paperback. Would it still qualify? Thanks

  5. Mary Deal says:

What happens when a person is unsure about which category to apply and then, perhaps, gets it wrong. Case in point, my book on writing tips has always been called a reference book, but you also have the category of Writing/Publishing. Do you automatically put an entry in the right category where YOU believe it fits? Thank you.

  6. How many winners and finalists will there be per category?

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

There is only one winner per category and the number of finalist can be a bunch or a few depending on how many the judges want to declare as finalists.

  7. sklopfer says:

Dan: What a great opportunity! (REmember back when with Internet With Fred and Susan?) These are exciting times for eBooks and I am so happy to have the opportunity to show mine off. So thanks and take care. Susan Klopfer

  8. Hi all, thanks for the opportunity and exposure. Is there any chance of adding a Psychological Fiction category?

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

Hi Silvano, We will seriously consider any category where there are people who review that category. If no one is reviewing that type of ebook, then we will probably not add more than the 80 categories we already have.

  9. This sounds too good to be true but I know the premise is right – each author will have to do his/her own promotion.

My book was published in ’07. Is that too long ago?

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

In our inaugural year, we are open to any ebook published before June 30, 2011. Next year, we will be open for books published from Jan. 1, 2011 to June 30, 2012.

  10. Good day, sirs.

My novel SHE’S MY DAD was published simultaneously in hardcover, paperback, and Kindle formats (as well as PDF direct from publisher.)

Would the Kindle (or PDF) version qualify to be submitted in your competition?

    Thank you so much,
    Lannie Woulff

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

The PDF is required for entry, yes. Please send us the PDF after you enter.

      • Um… I stupidly jumped the gun and e-mailed my PDF manuscript to GeBA-MSTF(at)awardsforebooks.com before I received notice as to whether or not it was nominated.

Please accept sincere apologies, my mistake was due to cyber-ineptitude rather than hubris.

        Lannie W.

  11. jackie says:

my book is in the editing process. can i still submit the book .

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

Only if it is for sale online as an ebook with a valid link to the site where it is being sold BEFORE July 1st. When will it be ready? Are you using Smashwords or some other service?

      • Dear Mr. Dowdy,

The novel was published in November of ’09, and has been for sale ever since on Amazon, B&N, Outskirts and others, so there are plenty of active links.

I will fill out my entry form later today, and look forward to the competition. Thanks so much for your help!

        Gratefully,
        Lannie W.

P.S. I notice you do not offer an LGBT Fiction category, so I will submit in the Thriller/Suspense category.

  12. kathy tooman says:

I have two books that will now hit the deadline. I do not have ISBN number yet. Can I still enter them?

    • Joseph Dowdy says:

If they are for sale online right now, you can enter them. You must provide the page where they are for sale. Please see the instructions for more details.
