Ruth by Lake and Prairie

On April 12, 2011, in Historical Literature - Fiction, by Katharine_Gingold

Not all Illinois pioneers arrived in covered wagons. Some of our earliest settlers sailed schooners across the Great Lakes. Joseph Naper, founder of Naperville, brought thirteen families aboard his ship the Telegraph in 1831. Ruth by Lake and Prairie tells of the journey through the eyes of his twelve-year-old niece, a “prairie girl” forty years before Laura lived in her Little House. The Illinois State Historical Society calls the book “a wonderful way to present history to young people.”
