A rumor in 1573 said that Queen Elizabeth the First had a love affair with her favorite Court Playwright, Edward de Vere, 17th Earl of Oxford. They had a love child raised as the Third Earl of Southampton. Oxford used the pen name “William Shakespeare” to protect the queen and his natural son, keeping their love story secret until their enemies had died. Now it can be told.
